Born in St. Lucia, Sylvester Herman's journey to becoming a rum producer is as rich and complex as his spirits. What began as a small operation selling rum punch cocktails quickly gained momentum. At his first market event at Lomond Shores, Sylvester arrived with 250 bottles expected to last the weekend – they sold out by 2pm on the first day. He rushed home to make more, returning with 500 bottles that also quickly sold out. Initially blending and spicing shop-bought rums, Sylvester's entrepreneurial journey took a significant turn when an HMRC representative, impressed by his knowledge and passion, encouraged him to distil his own rum. With his first still crafted from the parts of an immersion heater, IslandSlice truly began to take shape. 'I'm proud Scottish and I'm proud St. Lucian,' says Sylvester. 'With my rum, I'm bringing the two together.'
